Hello hello, and welcome to Hooked on Anime, a mostly fannish crochet blog :) I'll be sharing pictures of some of my projects, as well as the patterns and techniques I use to make them. There are a few things you may want to know about me and my methods before you dive in:

Stitch names, handedness, stitch use, round vs. row, hook size, yarn weight )

GALLERY: A gallery of my pictures can be found at [community profile] hooked_on_anime_gallery; they're in reverse chronological order and are all tagged with whether the pattern is available, what fandom they're from (if any), and what year I made them in.

TUTORIALS: I've got a bunch of tutorials and such linked here. If you are interested in learning to crochet or brushing up your skills, it's a good place to start. Options range from textual explanations to pictures to video.

COMMISSIONS: Commissions are currently OPEN. Fill out the form in THIS POST, send me a private message, or drop me an e-mail at socchan (at) gmail (dot) com, and we can work out the details. You can also check out my Etsy shop.

COMMENT POLICY: This is less related to crocheting, but still relevant: I'm a pretty staunch feminist, and as this is my blog, I would like to ask you politely not to use: any words that inherently describes a group of under-privileged people as insults/derogatory; any inherently gendered language as insulting; the word "rape" to describe anything that is not rape (etc). I'm pretty sure that covers it all, but if I think of more that haven't been covered by those blanket statements, I'll likely add them in :|b

Anonymous comments ARE enabled, so you should be able to comment on any post without needing a Dreamwidth account.

February 13, 2012: Due to my photobucket bandwidth being thoroughly eaten, I resorted to taking down my gallery post. I did manage to upload a good deal of my amigurumi pics to a new Flickr account, if you're interested in viewing them right now. Everything from the former gallery post has now been uploaded to [community profile] hooked_on_anime_gallery as well. This should cut down on my bandwidth usage quite a bit, and hopefully prevent any need of a paid account at either venue until I can actually pay for one.

Thank you for your patience!

If you've ever wanted to learn how to crochet so you can follow my less-than-professional patterns (or much better ones by other people), or just make your own things, this post is for you. I've got several tutorials and how-tos you can use, and hopefully you can pick things up without too much trouble :)

I am pleased as punch to announce that The Handmade Heritage is doing a stitch-a-long of a double-stranded variation on my crochet pony pattern! You can find out more here. If you've ever thought you wanted to try crocheting amigurumi/stuffed animals, or this pattern in particular, this would be a great chance to give it a shot :)

I've got another pattern up for sale at my Etsy store; it's my European Dragon Pattern, as seen here. I really enjoy using this pattern, and if you decide to buy it, I hope you will too!

You can find this pattern available for sale here.

Hello, all! By request, this is a pattern for Casey/Bubbles Von Salamancer from Homestuck; I've been wanting to make a new pattern but wasn't sure what until I got this timely suggestion. (I'd forgotten about the Lion King requests until after I'd started on this one - sorry, requesters! You're next, I promise.)

I hope y'all enjoy using this pattern!

In the time since I last posted, school ate me (ironic, given that I'm a bakery major) and my basement flooded. The latter is especially stressful, given that it's where I actually live - and yes, some of my yarn was damaged. If you haven't donated before and have the means to do so, please consider doing so! I love making patterns and sharing them, but doing so for free is truly a labor of love; for example, between figuring out the pattern itself and putting together this post, this pattern has taken me over five hours. Thank you for your time and consideration :)

You've seen me mention wanting to sell original patterns for a while now, I'm sure. Well, I finally got my first one up today, and it's a doozie!

You can see the griffins I've made with it over here. I hope you consider purchasing it!

By request and because it's not like I can actually sell these anymore, mini Squiddles!

And there you go! Really one of my simpler patterns. Enjoy!

Aaaaand I give here. It's missing the boots and gloves (apparently I didn't record the pattern for the left glove either, at which I can only sigh) but it has the pullover and the belt/shoulder guard/suspenders combo? Apparently I actually did record the pattern for the left glove, I just mislabeled it. Way to fail, self.

You are now invited to crochet to your hearts' content! Apologies for mistakes, I am lazy and not up to fixing them now. Also, I have three more apparel patterns to type up, and I'd like to get that done tonight. Or at least before the sun rises tomorrow.

Hey folks! Sorry for the lack of upkeep here; I've gone back to school and have had other things on my plate. (I am now officially a broke college student! ...Again!) I'll get to everyone as soon as I can, though!

In the mean time, here's a nice, big, complicated pattern I've been meaning to post for a while. Meant to post it last month, but, well, stuff.

But first, as is traditional, pictures! )

Second pattern of the day, since it's both simple and really similar to two other patterns I already have up.

Hello, all! I've returned triumphantly(?) from AnimeIowa 2012 :) I'm still not quite up to answering comments - spoons have been diverted elsewhere - but I can post a couple of simple patterns for the lovely MSPA fans I met there.

I'm appalled at how long it's been since I've made a charity offer. Appalled, I tell you!

From the info at [community profile] help_for_ephemere:

This is a fundraiser to benefit [personal profile] ephemere, with the aim of supporting her in the wake of her losing her job, home, and good relations with her family due to homophobia. The idea of this fundraiser was conceived by friends of [personal profile] ephemere, and is being run with her permission. Funds will go to rent, utilities, food, and medical bills.

We are accepting donations (please contact the mods via PM for more details) & are also running an auction as follows:

The auction will open for offers on Thursday, July 5.

All auctions will open for bids on Thursday, July 12.

Bidding will be open from Thursday, July 12 at 21:00 GMT to Saturday, July 21 at 21:00 GMT (time zone converter).

Please see our FAQ for more information!

My customary offer can be found here. I know it's not a lot of time or warning, but I still want to do something if I can. If you have the means, please consider helping out!

I know I said I was only going to post once a month, in order to preserve by pattern backlog a little, but then I found out that June is Adopt A Shelter Cat Month within two days of having finished this cutie, and I figured, why shouldn't our favorite ectobiological mutant feline speak out on behalf of shelter cats?

I've started typing up a lot of my backlogged fannish patterns in an effort to also type up my original stuff so I can get it tested and sell it. I plan to post a pattern a month until I run out, barring ADHD underestimation. The first one is a pattern I've been sitting on for ages - and one I imagine won't get a lot of attention, but wev, it's all cool.

Remember, anonymous comments are enabled, so please feel welcome to ask if you have any questions! I don't promise to answer promptly (see: ADHD), but I'll do my best to get an answer to you as soon as I can manage.

Show of hooks, who here remembers my first pattern? I tell ya, it's a real head-scratcher by my current standards. So I finally have an updated version for you, hooray! It only took almost two years, too.

I'll be leaving the first version up for posterity and/or anyone who might still want to use it. Because it is conceivable that there are people who will like that version better than this one, though I am not one of them.

Pics of this version are forthcoming, but the old version shouldn't look too different.

And that's it! If you have any questions or notes where I can improve this version, please don't hesitate to comment.

I really did mean to get this up in January, it just... didn't happen. Er. Well, he's here now?

Jig the Goblin, from [livejournal.com profile] jimhines' series of the same name. As a reminder, the pattern for Smudge the Fire-spider can be found here, though he's almost big enough to eat Jig at this scale.
