In the time since I last posted, school ate me (ironic, given that I'm a bakery major) and my basement flooded. The latter is especially stressful, given that it's where I actually live - and yes, some of my yarn was damaged. If you haven't donated before and have the means to do so, please consider doing so! Show of hooks, who here remembers my first pattern? I tell ya, it's a real head-scratcher by my current standards. So I finally have an updated version for you, hooray! It only took almost two years, too.

I'll be leaving the first version up for posterity and/or anyone who might still want to use it. Because it is conceivable that there are people who will like that version better than this one, though I am not one of them.

Pics of this version are forthcoming, but the old version shouldn't look too different.

Oh god I am so sorry for vanishing for ~three months. If you are at all curious as to why my brain makes me do this, check this out, though I don't advise reading while you are eating, drinking, have a cough, or anything else that would be bad to do while laughing. Pay special attention to the guilt spiral part, because that is a huge part of my problem.

What little productivity I've managed the past few months has mostly been in finally setting up an Etsy account, which I will link here as soon as I figure out how to do so, and making things for said Etsy account.

I'll finally be getting to all late comments in the next twenty-four hours, and will hopefully finally post another pattern or two. Thank you so much for your patience, and sorry again about the wait.

Whoops (Regarding images)

Sorry about that folks; it looks like my free bandwidth for PhotoBucket ran out. I was hoping that it'd last through the end of the year at least, but that's apparently not going to be the case.

According to the form e-mail I got from PhotoBucket, my bandwidth will regenerate on January 9th, which is a little longer than I'd like to wait before everything goes back up. I was already thinking about separating the gallery from the pattern blog, but I guess this pushes my decision forward a little bit.

Unfortunately, I'm not set up for polls here, but I would like to hear what y'all think if you're up to it. What should I go with:

* A separate journal or community for the gallery, with separate projects divided between posts (Pros: Dreamwidth rocks; Cons: No increased exposure, no photo hosting [yet])
* A Tumblr account (Pros: Lots more exposure, possible photo hosting; Cons: Site not always in tune with how people use it)
* A DeviantArt account (Pros: Lots more exposure, photo hosting; Cons: Unfunny Business)
* A paid PhotoBucket account (Pros: I don't have to worry about juggling links, I won't run out of bandwidth; Cons: It costs money, which I'm short on, no increased exposure)
* Some other option I haven't covered (split photos I have patterns for and those I don't between two hosting services?)
* Some combination of the above

If you have any thoughts or input on what you think I should do, please share them in a comment! I want to try and have this decision sorted out within two or three days, max, and would love to hear from y'all on the matter.

In the mean time, I'm going to get some sleep. Tomorrow I'll be posting the pattern for Dobby the house elf from Harry Potter; I'll improvise something for his pictures.

Hello again, folks; sorry it's another update without a pattern, but my plate's been relatively full lately. Give it a week or two, I guess?

Anyway, you probably haven't noticed the recent deluge of spam comments here. Just for the record, I've gotten something like eighteen spam comments in the past twenty-four hours. They're pretty easy to recognize, and as I understand it the DW anti-spam team is very enthusiastic about their work (Hello, if you're reading this!). Between that and the fact that almost all of my comments here from actual people are anonymous, I will be leaving anonymous comments enabled. As long as you don't have keyboard mashing in your subject line, your comment is probably safe.

If, for any reason, you have comment tracking enabled for this blog as a whole, or for one post in particular, I'd suggest turning that off for the time being. Otherwise, there should be no discernible change in this blogspace.

Incidentally, if you'd like to have a Dreamwidth account of your own for any reason, I do have a rather spectacular number of invite codes to give out. Just leave a (non-spam) comment here and I'll hook you up, so to speak. [/rimshot]

State of the Crocheter

Howdy, folks! Sorry for the relative radio silence on my end, I've been a little distracted. Again.

Anyway, this is mostly to let you know that I'm going through and making a major edit to a number of my patterns. Specifically:

A note on ~~sc 6~~: Wherever I have Round One with ~~sc 6~~ (sc 6 crossed out), that's where you can go ahead and start with dc 12 instead. I honestly have a little trouble starting a magic ring with dc, so I've been using sc as a bit of a work-around, but going right for dc honestly gives the various body parts a better shape. If you've been having a problem body parts that are too pointy or round, this might be the fix you're looking for.

I'll try and get all of that fixed up sometime tonight.

I've also had a couple of people ask about selling things made from my patterns. I'm generally pretty cool with it, with a couple of exceptions, and especially if you ask (though no guilt if you haven't asked before now; I didn't exactly have a policy up earlier), but I do have a couple of requests:

1) If you're able, financially or otherwise, and the fandom creator has a tip jar, please drop a percentage of what you make in there. If not, maybe consider a charity.
2) Once you've donated to the creator (or a charity), please consider dropping me a smaller percentage of what you make. Or just donate once in a while. I love making most of my patterns free to the public, but I'd also love to stay in yarn and get out of my parents' basement.

I think that's it for now! I'm going to try and have Dobby's pattern up by the solar new year, but I'm not sure about what else I might put up. Thanks for your time :)

Scalemate Pattern (Large)

What the heck; I've got my written patterns out, I've got a clean file on OpenOffice ready, why not get the other scalemate pattern up?

For those of you who made it to AnimeIowa, this is the pattern I used for Pyralspite. I'm happy to announce that I have since found cheap squeaky toys at the dollar tree, and plan to perform surgery on Pyralspite ...eventually. Sooner or later, really.

I hope this makes up a bit for me taking so long to post the Small Scalemate pattern :X I really do try not to let my life get too far away from me but - well, it's an ongoing process.

Edit: 11 Nov 2011 - Made a minor change, removing the start-up sc from the body, head, and legs. If you've been having trouble with shape, this should help a bit. (24 May 2012: Round numbers have been changed to reflect this.)
Edit: 06 Dec 2011 - Added a suggestion to the bottom of the Head pattern. I'm planning to give it a try myself before making it permanent, but it seems sound to me from just looking, so if you've had trouble with the nose area, give it a look-see. Hat-tip for the suggestion to a helpful commenter :)

Scalemate Pattern (Small)

I'm just going to sit here and pretend this is a few days after AnimeIowa rather than a week and a day past. That work for you? Okay then.

For those of you who made it to AI, this was the pattern I used for Senator Lemonsnout. I started out trying to find out whether the dc pattern I made for Pyralspite would translate to a smaller scalemate just by switching to sc - and then found it it didn't. Good to know for future me/present me!

Sooner or later, I'll have up Pyralspite's pattern (AKA the Large Scalemate Pattern). Hopefully I'll also eventually have a Medium Scalemate Pattern, though who knows when that'll happen exactly. (Future me, obviously.) In the mean time, I hope anyone who wishes to can overpopulate their respiteblocks with scalemates of various colors and identities will be satisfied with this.

Hey folks :) I wanted to have a new pattern up today, but unfortunately my life has dissolved into a hot mess. I need to move out of my apartment by noon tomorrow, and open the registration desk for AnimeIowa by sometime tonight. Between the two of them, those tasks have me almost completely occupied.

If I get a spare hour or two, I'll try and see if I can't get the pattern up anyway. Otherwise, well, I'll either see you next month, or at AnimeIowa.

For those of you who can make it there: I'll be running the panel Plushie Madness at 5:00 pm Friday. I'll be at the con all weekend, wearing this and handing out flyers for the Brain Slug Party. Hope to see you there!

Edit: I'm officially back and more-or-less recovered from AnimeIowa! Special thanks to everyone who stopped to admire (or buy! :O) my work, who showed up at my panel or just asked questions, and everyone who showed up in general. I've got some unpacking to do after my move, but I'm hoping to get the "Lemonsnout" (officially: small scalemate) pattern up later this evening or tomorrow.
