A pattern for a bidder with Fandom Trumps Hate! The winner requested Twig from the animated show "Hilda", and I did my best to oblige.

This is a fairly large pattern, on a similar scale to the MLP:FIM pattern in terms of size and amount of yarn used, so if you're familiar with that one, it's a decent benchmark. Like the MLP:FIM pattern, it also relies heavily on (US) double crochet.

Enough of that, though; time for Pictures )

Pattern time! )

If anyone has any trouble with this pattern, please let me know and I'll do my best to clear things up in the comments section!

Not long ago, I got sucked into the extremely strange and slightly horrifying world of Awful Hospital. It's, uh. Well, I enjoy it? But if blood, guts, medical trauma, medical abuse, child illness and endangerment, unsanitary situations, and general existential horror (among other things) are squicks or triggers for you, you may want to give it a miss. (I swear it's still somehow wholesome and fun! Partly from the cartoony way it's drawn, partly from the writing and the characters themselves. Just, uh, be aware.)

Anyway, Mitchell the floamzoner, AKA "Blob Dad" showed up close to strip/layer number 900, and someone in the comments mentioned that he'd make a cute plush. What the heck, I figured; why not! I had to wait until I finished Gritty to get to work (official charity commissions first), but having finished crocheting Mitchell, I have to agree with the commenter: He makes a darn cute plush!

Oh, and for any of you worried about the long list of warnings up there? I promise, his crocheted pictures are 100% safe (and the strip I linked above is probably 95% safe as well).

And now for the pattern )

If you like this pattern—or even if you don't—and are comfortably able to do so, please consider donating to Native American Covid 19 relief funds! Native American communities have been among the hardest hit by Covid, with little to no government aid.

Here are a couple of donation options:

Navajo/Diné and Hopi Covid 19 Relief Fund

Pueblo Relief Fund

But first, Some puns! )

Seriously, though: With Covid-19 going on over the past year, public aquariums have had to close their doors for the safety of their patrons, their staff, and even some of their charges and/or exhibits. While many have opened their doors again, at least in a limited capacity, some still remain closed, and I predict that number will only go back up with cases on the rise again.

I am offering this pattern for free until it is safe for public aquariums to open their doors again. If you like this pattern and are comfortably able to do so, please consider donating to a public aquarium so they can keep things running and their animals and people safe.

If you’re in the US and you want to donate as locally as possible, I’m sure that [profile] noaasanctuaries can help you figure out which facility is closest to you! And if you’re outside the US, I’m reasonably sure they can still help point you to someone who can help 😉

If you just want some quick links without the hassle of actually talking to anyone, though, here’s a few:

National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium (This one is the closest to me!)

Monterey Bay Aquarium

New England Aquarium

Florida Aquarium

Waikiki Aquarium

Download links for the pattern are below:

Please spread this around, and feel free to link to the aquariums you love when you do! Zoos and museums are also great!

Hello, all! By request, this is a pattern for Casey/Bubbles Von Salamancer from Homestuck; I've been wanting to make a new pattern but wasn't sure what until I got this timely suggestion. (I'd forgotten about the Lion King requests until after I'd started on this one - sorry, requesters! You're next, I promise.)

I hope y'all enjoy using this pattern!

Hey folks! Sorry for the lack of upkeep here; I've gone back to school and have had other things on my plate. (I am now officially a broke college student! ...Again!) I'll get to everyone as soon as I can, though!

In the mean time, here's a nice, big, complicated pattern I've been meaning to post for a while. Meant to post it last month, but, well, stuff.

But first, as is traditional, pictures! )

Hello, all! I've returned triumphantly(?) from AnimeIowa 2012 :) I'm still not quite up to answering comments - spoons have been diverted elsewhere - but I can post a couple of simple patterns for the lovely MSPA fans I met there.

I know I said I was only going to post once a month, in order to preserve by pattern backlog a little, but then I found out that June is Adopt A Shelter Cat Month within two days of having finished this cutie, and I figured, why shouldn't our favorite ectobiological mutant feline speak out on behalf of shelter cats?

I've started typing up a lot of my backlogged fannish patterns in an effort to also type up my original stuff so I can get it tested and sell it. I plan to post a pattern a month until I run out, barring ADHD underestimation. The first one is a pattern I've been sitting on for ages - and one I imagine won't get a lot of attention, but wev, it's all cool.

Remember, anonymous comments are enabled, so please feel welcome to ask if you have any questions! I don't promise to answer promptly (see: ADHD), but I'll do my best to get an answer to you as soon as I can manage.

If you like this pattern and have the means to do so, please consider making a donation. I put a lot of work into these and love sharing them with fans, but I also like being able to pay the bills! Thank you.

Show of hooks, who here remembers my first pattern? I tell ya, it's a real head-scratcher by my current standards. So I finally have an updated version for you, hooray! It only took almost two years, too.

I'll be leaving the first version up for posterity and/or anyone who might still want to use it. Because it is conceivable that there are people who will like that version better than this one, though I am not one of them.

Pics of this version are forthcoming, but the old version shouldn't look too different.

Perry the Pattern 2.0 (pet mode) )

And that's it! If you have any questions or notes where I can improve this version, please don't hesitate to comment.

I really did mean to get this up in January, it just... didn't happen. Er. Well, he's here now?

Jig the Goblin, from [livejournal.com profile] jimhines' series of the same name. As a reminder, the pattern for Smudge the Fire-spider can be found here, though he's almost big enough to eat Jig at this scale.

What the heck; I've got my written patterns out, I've got a clean file on OpenOffice ready, why not get the other scalemate pattern up?

For those of you who made it to AnimeIowa, this is the pattern I used for Pyralspite. I'm happy to announce that I have since found cheap squeaky toys at the dollar tree, and plan to perform surgery on Pyralspite ...eventually. Sooner or later, really.

Pics or it didn't happen? Well here's pics of Pyralspite, so it must have happened )

Pattern here )

I hope this makes up a bit for me taking so long to post the Small Scalemate pattern :X I really do try not to let my life get too far away from me but - well, it's an ongoing process.

Edit: 11 Nov 2011 - Made a minor change, removing the start-up sc from the body, head, and legs. If you've been having trouble with shape, this should help a bit. (24 May 2012: Round numbers have been changed to reflect this.)
Edit: 06 Dec 2011 - Added a suggestion to the bottom of the Head pattern. I'm planning to give it a try myself before making it permanent, but it seems sound to me from just looking, so if you've had trouble with the nose area, give it a look-see. Hat-tip for the suggestion to a helpful commenter :)
Edit: 10 May 2014 - Minor correction to the body. Hat tip to anonymous commenter. Thank you!

I'm just going to sit here and pretend this is a few days after AnimeIowa rather than a week and a day past. That work for you? Okay then.

For those of you who made it to AI, this was the pattern I used for Senator Lemonsnout. I started out trying to find out whether the dc pattern I made for Pyralspite would translate to a smaller scalemate just by switching to sc - and then found it it didn't. Good to know for future me/present me!

Sooner or later, I'll have up Pyralspite's pattern (AKA the Large Scalemate Pattern). Hopefully I'll also eventually have a Medium Scalemate Pattern, though who knows when that'll happen exactly. (Future me, obviously.) In the mean time, I hope anyone who wishes to can overpopulate their respiteblocks with scalemates of various colors and identities will be satisfied with this.

First, though, pictures for those who haven't seen the end result yet: Senator Lemonsnout )

As seen in Plush Sleuth :) Or you can look at the two measly pictures in this post.

That should be all :) Please comment if you have any questions or want clarification or whatever.

Edit: [Dec 27 2011] I've edited PS's hat slightly to make it more accurate. That'll teach me not to crochet without getting proper reference pictures. I've also fixed up some instructions a bit to hopefully make them clearer. Pictures of Sleuth 2.0 coming eventually.

Hello to all :) And a special, slightly belated hello to all the Bronies (and pals?) over from Equestria Daily

Surprise pattern time! I in no way expected this to be the next pattern I posted, and then I ended up crocheting it on a whim, so. It's definitely more on the "difficult" side as my patterns go, I'm afraid :P Still, I'm hoping to have a much simpler pattern up next - or at least relatively soon.

A note on the pattern as a whole: This pattern is based on the basic ponies we see so much of in the show, particularly the mane cast and the background ponies. Ponies with different body types - Celestia, Luna, Big Macintosh, Granny Smith, younger ponies, and anyone I might be forgetting - would ideally have a different shape. Unfortunately, I'm not likely to get around to making the patterns for them any time soon, short of getting a commission for them (or a really huge donation or something); this pattern will still work for any of them, it just won't look -quite- right. [Edit:] [deviantart.com profile] uminohoshi suggests half-double crochet (double crochet for the UK folks) for young ponies. [/edit]

Another lifehack from the comments: "The trick to stuffing a dark piece with pale fiberfill is to find a darkish sock (or the foot off a pair of pantyhose) and put that inside the piece, then stuff the sock." Way cool.

As always, feel free to alter something with the pattern if, while you are making it, you think it would look better. It's more important that you're happy with the end product than you stick exactly to the pattern.

Moving right along, let's start with pictures: Fluttershy )

Pattern time!

Large print PDFs: [US version] [UK version]
Both are in 18 point Verdana font for ease of readability; neither include pictures. I just used find-and-replace in the UK version, so if there's anything I need to change other than dc = tc and sc = dc, please don't hesitate to let me know!

Jan 6 2013 The marvelous Lenka has translated this pattern into Czech! Go check it out if it's your language - or even if it's not; she's included some great pictures of the process, including the "Rainbow Dash" style wings.

I am also pleased to announce that [blogspot.com profile] knitoneawesome has made a single crochet version (double crochet for the UK folks) and it looks fantastic! Everyone who has ever wanted a SC version is invited to take a look - and even those who like the DC version fine, because who knows if you won't like that one better?

Crochet is magic )

I think that's about it! If you have any questions about this pattern, please feel free to leave a comment, and I will try and get my butt in gear to reply with help ^^b Thank you!

20 Jan 2012: By now I've gotten the question several times, "Can I sell ponies I've made using your pattern?" I thought it would be best if I made a more public answer than just in the comments below.

I am generally cool with it! I only ask a few things:
1) Include information on where you got the pattern (Hooked On Anime)
2) If you are able, financially or otherwise, drop me a little something in the tip jar; we'll call the suggested donation $6 USD? Though I won't turn you down if you want to donate more (or less, even).
3) Please comment here or send me a PM or an e-mail or something to let me know you're doing it! You don't have to include your name or anything, I just want to keep an idea in my head of how much competition I have popular this pattern is with people selling it and stuff, I guess.

26 Jan 2013: In response to the question "Can I translate your pattern into another language?"

The answer is: Yes! I am deeply flattered by the fact that two people have already asked to do so. If you love this pattern enough to want to share it with other people who don't speak/read English, I would be delighted to see you do so. Please only do two things:

1) Link back here, so people know where the original came from, and:
2) Send me a link to your non-English version so I can share back. You're serving people in a way that I can't; if someone would get better use out of your translation than my original, it only makes sense that they use it, and I can only tell them where to go if I know where to send them.

In response to any other question: There are three pages worth of comments in response to this post. I or someone else may have already answered your question in one of these comments! Check through them before asking your own question. In the future, if I get any repeat questions ("How do I make [Character]'s mane/tail?" is a very common example), I will tell you to check the other comments. Answering repeat questions has taken up time I would prefer to be using to do other things: typing up new patterns, for example, or crocheting things I hope to sell. Please please please check through the information that's already here before asking something.

10 May, 2014: Suggestions for Pinkie Pie's Mane/Tail: I've listed a few here. I haven't tried any of them, since I haven't made Pinkie Pie yet, but those are some options available to you. Good luck!

Thanks very much!

Thanks also to everyone who has helped me make this pattern better; in case it's not obvious, I don't usually use a beta-tester for fan patterns, and every mistake you help me remove helps not only me, but everyone who uses this pattern in the future. I am incredibly grateful to all of you.

Hey folks :) Happy solar new year to you! I'd like to say that my goal for this cycle is to post one new pattern a month, but with my finances as they are (that is, not the best) that may not be an option. Still, I live in hope.

Today I bring you a pattern for Squiddles, of MSPA/Homestuck fame. Pictures under the cut )

On to the pattern )

I think that's all for now :) Happy April 13, 2009!

Edit: Time for far, far too belated awarding of credit. This pattern is heavily influenced by Hooks and Needles' Futurama Brain Slug Pattern. I really should have mentioned it earlier, but at the time I wasn't consciously aware of just how much of a role that pattern played in the development of this one. My sincerest apologies for not mentioning this sooner. I'm going to go hang the shame curtains now.

Edit 2: With thanks to a kind anon for the tip, I've moved the instructions on when to stitch the ridge to the body to after the instructions for the ridge itself. Hopefully that clears things up for anyone who's confused.

This is a custom pattern commissioned for [livejournal.com profile] help_pakistan; the winner requested Kumano 900 from the band U900, seen here on YouTube. [WARNING for the bunny, whose design is, quite frankly, racist; it's the bear I'm making, but I felt it best to warn.]

A [livejournal.com profile] help_pakistan pattern! Not the custom pattern (I'm still working on that one), but a pattern from one of the custom amigurumi I offered to make. I've gotten confirmation from all of my bidders now (yay!), but only requests from two, and now I've, uh. Finished one already ._.a See, inspiration took hold, and would not let me go, so. Uh. ...Look, I'm really tempted to make some sort of "pony express" joke here, but history jokes are better left in the hands of the master herself, so I'll just do some linkdropping and get to pattern posting.
